Obituary for Jose Franco
Jose Verissimo Franco, 63, of Chicopee passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 with his loving family by his side. Born in Lugar da Estrada, Portugal to the late Jose and Lizete (Fonseca) Franco he immigrated to the United States in 1973 and worked for many years at T&M Corporation before his retirement in 2001. Jose was proud of his Portuguese heritage, he served in the Portuguese Army from 1969-1971, was a faithful member of the Chicopee Portuguese Club, a member of the “Os Joses” Society and an avid “Sportinguista”, he was well known for his jokes and his vibrant personality but it was the time spent with his family that he cherished the most. Jose leaves his beloved children; Bridgete Van Wart of Ludlow and Jose “Joe” V. Franco Jr. and his wife Joanna of Ludlow; adored grandchildren Samantha and Ryan Van Wart and Lucas and Eliana Franco; caring brother Joao Batista Franco and his wife Graciete of Indian Orchard , Carlos, Luis Fernando, Hermano Franco and sister Fernanda Fonseca in Portugal; his godson Joao Franco and his wife Theresa of Springfield and his niece Nancy Franco of Indian Orchard as well as several nieces and nephews in Portugal. Sadly Jose was predeceased by his grandson, Andrew and by his siblings To-Ze, Manuel and Celestino. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 8:30 am from Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated in Our Lady of Fatima Church at 9:30 followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours are Monday evening from 4:00-7:00pm and in lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jose’s name to: The American Cancer Society, 59 Bobala Road #2, Holyoke, MA. 01040.
