Obituary for Jose Genovevo
Jose Genovevo, 86, of Ludlow passed away peacefully in the care and comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday August 18, 2013. Born in Carris, Alcobaca, Portugal to the late Francisco and Arminda (Tereso) Genovevo, he had lived in France for 8 years before immigrating to the United States, settling in Ludlow in 1972. He worked at the former Alaval Corporation for a few years then was a self employed contractor until his retirement. He was proud of his Portuguese heritage and was a member of the Gremio Lusitano Club, the Jose Society and an avid fan of SL. Benfica. Some of his interests included farming and wine making, he enjoyed socializing with his many friends throughout the community, but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his cherished family. Jose was predeceased by his beloved wife Mariana (Lucas) Genovevo in 1999. He was the loving father to Carlos Genovevo and his wife Grace of Ludlow and Maria Helena Pires and her husband Artur of Ludlow; caring grandfather to Daniel Pires and wife Lisa, Adriano Genovevo, Jennifer Genovevo -Frisk and husband Jason and Helder Pires and his wife Melissa; adored great-grandfather to Gabriella, Daniel and Aidan; brother to Fernando of France and Maria, Ana and Manuel of Portugal. Sadly Jose was also predeceased by his brother Antonio Tereso Genovevo in March of 2013. Funeral services celebrating Jose’s life will be held on Thursday August 22, 2013 at 9:00am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated in Our Lady of Fatima Church at 10:00am followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours are Wednesday evening from 4:00-7:00pm and in lieu of flowers Jose’s family has asked that donations be made in his memory to: Our Lady of Fatima Restoration Fund, 438 Winsor Street, Ludlow, MA. 01056.
