Obituary for Jose Goncalves Lopes
Jose Goncalves Lopes, 85, of Ludlow was called home to be with God on Wednesday, May 8, 2019. Born in Trancozelos, Portugal he was the son of the late Adelaide Goncalves and served in the Portuguese Army. Jose has lived in Ludlow for many years and was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Parish and a proud member of the Ludlow Senior Center and Golden Agers, the Jose Society, and the former Portuguese American Citizens Club. He worked for many years at Danaher Tools before retiring in 1996. Jose was the beloved husband of the late Maria Fernanda (Amaral) Lopes, who predeceased him in 2016; a loving father to Lina Dias and late husband John, and the late Paul Lopes, who predeceased him in 2017; a cherished grandfather to Stephen, Cassandra, and Katherine Dias; brother to Idalina daSilva and husband Jose, and Ida Ribis, all of Ludlow, and the late Fernando Goncalves Lopes; brother-in-law to Marcelina Andrade and husband Artur, of Portugal, Artur Amaral and wife Fernanda, of Ludlow, and Odette Pereira and husband Jose, of Ludlow; beloved godfather to Rui Pereira, Manny Andrade and Alice Domingos; and also leaves many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends including his special friends the Pina family. Funeral services for Jose will be held on Saturday, May 11th at 9:00am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours are on Friday from 4:00-7:00pm and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jose’s memory to Friends of the Ludlow Senior Center 37 Chestnut St. Ludlow, Ma. 01056.
