Obituary for Jose J. Pereira
Jose Pereira, 79, of Indian Orchard passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday August 14th, 2010. Born in Pedras Salgadas,Portugal on May 28, 1931 to Antonio Joaquim Pereira and Maria Conceicao de Sousa, he served in the Portuguese Army for 4 years before immigrating to Germany where he worked for 9 years. He was predeceased by his loving wife Maria Angelina da Fonte whom he married in 1954 in Portugal. Together they had four loving children. In 1973, he immigrated to the United States with his entire family. He was a faithful and active communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Parish. Jose began working as a machine operator at Alavel in Indian Orchard for 5 years. He then began his 20 year journey at Spaulding where he also worked as a machine operator manufacturing golf balls until his retirement in 1994. Jose then spent his days enjoying retirement and working and volunteering at Our Lady of Fatima Parish. He spent many hours a day working on the Church grounds and he took great pride in his work. His hard work and dedication was evident in his facial expressions and his stubbornness to go home at the end of the day. He was forever smiling and willing to lend a hand to whomever needed his help. Jose was always working, if it wasn’t at the church then he was working in his garden. One of his enjoyments was wine making. He took pride teaching his children and family the art of making wine. He made plenty and enjoyed sharing it with his family and friends. Jose is survived by Gracinda Carvalho Pereira whom he married in 1988. He leaves behind his children; Manuel Pereira and his wife Sao, Emilia Fonseca and her husband Diamantino, Maria de Fatima Fernandes and her husband Domingos all of Ludlow and his youngest son Antonio Pereira of Wilbraham; 8 cherished grandchildren, Lili Quiterio and her husband Jacob, Brian, Sonia, Jose, Jessica, Michael, Antonio Jr., and Joseph; 3 beloved great-grandchildren, Sabrina, Ashley and Emily Quiterio; a caring brother Arlindo Pereira and his wife Ana, and his sister Teresa Machado of Ludlow as well as many siblings in Portugal, Ana Rosa, Isabel, Maria Jose, Filomena and Ana Maria along with may nieces, nephews. Jose was predeceased by his brother Antonio and his sister Odete. Funeral services for Jose will be held on Wednesday August 18th, 2010 at 9:00am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated in Our Lady of Fatima Church at 10:00am followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00-8:00pm and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jose’s memory to: Our Lady of Fatima Church, Winsor St. Ludlow, MA. 01056.
