Obituary for Jose Luis Arsenio
Jose Luis Arsenio, 73, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully at home on December 2, 2017 surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Portugal, son of the late Luis and Ercilia Arsenio, he was a proud member of the Portuguese Army and travelled the world as a cook on cruise ships before immigrating to the United States in 1971. Jose was a devoted member of Our Lady of Fatima Church and worked for many years at various construction companies and most recently at Mountain View Landscapes and Lawn Care before retiring. In his spare time, Jose enjoyed spending time in Portugal, making wine, fishing, playing cards at the Gremio Lusitano Club, rooting on Sporting Soccer Club, and spending time with his friends at Dunkin Donuts. Jose was the beloved husband of 43 years to Maria de Jesus (Palatino) Arsenio; a dear brother to Jorge Arsenio and wife Rosa, of Portugal, Guida Costa and husband Joao, of Toronto, Emilia Arsenio, of Portugal, and the late Simao Arsenio; and adored son-in-law to the late Maria and Jose Palatino. He also leaves his brothers-in-law Manuel Palatino and wife Carolina, Antonio Palatino and wife Aurea, Martinho Palatino and fiancee Roxanne, Gilberto Palatino, Adelino Palatino and wife Maria Fatima; sister-in-law Isabel Rebelo and husband Vasco, Zelia Palatino and fiancee Paul, and Ivone Smith and husband Scott; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends around the world. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Jose’s aunt Maria Nogueira, cousin Anthony Nogueira, his many caring nurses including Brigham & Women's and Mass General Hospitals, Baystate Wound Center and Dr. Barrett Newsome and his team at MGH Cancer Center at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, for all of the exceptional care that they gave to Jose. Funeral services for Jose are on Wednesday, December 6th at 9:00am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours are on Tuesday from 5:00 - 8:30pm and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jose’s memory to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Foundation 282 Washington St. Hartford, Ct. 06106 or MGH Cancer Center at Cooley Dickinson Hospital 30 Locust St. Northampton, Ma. 01060.
