Obituary for Joseph C. Santos
Joseph Santos "Joe or Torpedo" of Ludlow left this world peacefully at Holyoke Medical Center as a resident of the Holyoke Soldiers Home on April 28 . He recently turned 95. He was a lifelong resident of Ludlow. At 18 years of age he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country during World War II. When he returned he met the love of his life, Geraldine (Harrison) of Chicopee. They had 68 wonderful years together and loved to travel, play cards with friends and especially spend time with family. Joe retired from the United States Postal Service in 1984. He loved working in his garden and would love to tell you all about plants. Joe was noted for literally giving the shirt off his back. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends daily at McDonalds and would often be seen riding his bike in town. You could always count on him for a good joke. He enjoyed watching classic movies and playing with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Gremio Lusitano Club, member of the Knights of Columbus, and a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Parish. He was predeceased by his wife Geraldine Harrison and he leaves his loving children, daughter Cindy Comeau, son-in-law Richard Comeau, both of East Longmeadow, son Michael Santos, daughter-in-law Marie Santos both of Wilbraham, grandchildren David and Stacy Comeau of Weymouth Ma, Aaron and Annie Comeau of Agawam Ma, Lauren and Phil Szlosek of Bellingham Ma, Katelyn and Evan Rosienski of Chicopee Ma, and two great granddaughters Liza and Abby. He also leaves his sister Leonette Roberts of Cape Cod along with several nieces and nephews. Joseph’s services were held privately by his family and arrangements were entrusted to Ludlow Funeral Home. In absence of funeral services and lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to Springfield Rescue Mission 10 Mill Street Springfield, MA 01108 or online at https://springfieldrescuemission.org.
