Obituary for Joseph P. Gonsalves
Joseph Gonsalves, 82, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 4th, 2009. Born in Cambridge to the late Manuel and Aldina (Mello) Gonsalves, he was a longtime Ludlow resident and respected local business owner. He owned the former Laura’s Spa and Western Driving School in Ludlow, worked for Hamilton Standard as a draftsman, and recently for United Driving School as an instructor. He served his country honorably as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Parish and a former member of the Gremio Lusitano Club, Polish American Citizens Club and the Unity Athletic Club. Joseph was predeceased by his wife Laura (Palhete) Gonsalves in 1984. He leaves his beloved companion of over 20 years, Marilyn Wheelock of Ludlow and her extended family; his loving son Glenn Gonsalves and his spouse Jeffrey Hetrick of Plymouth, MA; loving daughter Laurie Skelly of Providence, RI; cherished grandchildren Shawn Skelly and his wife Nicole, Beth Ann Healy, Damon Hetrick and Nathan Hetrick; caring sisters Mary Norowski and Theresa Silva; several loving nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and great nieces and nephews, as well as his faithful sidekick, Lilly. Joseph was predeceased by his brother Manuel Gonsalves in 2006. Funeral services with Military Honors will be held on Friday May 8th, 2009 at 9:00am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial beginning at 10:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery.
