Obituary for Joseph Palmeira
Joseph Palmeira, 92, of Chicopee passed away peacefully on Monday, August 9th, 2010. Born in Alcobaca, Portugal he lived in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield for many years and was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Ludlow. Joseph was an inspector at the former Moore Drop Forge Company, former member of the Gremio Lusitano Club in Ludlow and belonged to the “Jose” society. He loved to garden and was an avid hunter. Joseph was predeceased by his first wife Maria (Marques) Palmeira in 1995 and a daughter Maria Santos in 2003. He leaves his wife Maria (Vitorino) Palmeira of Ludlow; loving daughter Casimira Lavigne and her husband Raymond of Chicopee; caring son-in-law Manuel Santos of Ludlow; cherished grandchildren Ann Marie Lavigne, Joseph Lavigne, David Lavigne, John Lavigne, Christina Santos Alves and her husband Daniel, Michael Santos, Daniel Santos and his wife Carrisa and Marc Santos and his wife Katie; his great-grandson Gabriel Alves; sister Maria Henriques and her husband Joao of Florida, and his late brother John Palmeira. Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 14th, 2010 at 8:00am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy Of Christian Burial celebrated in Our Lady of Fatima Church at 9:00am followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visitation is Friday evening from 4:00-7:00pm.  Donations may be made in Joseph’s memory to the D’Amour Center for Cancer Care 3350 Main Street, Springfield, MA. 01107.
