Obituary for Laura Rita (Vala)
Laura Rita, 89, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on April 2, 2020. Born in Carris de Evora, Portugal, daughter of the late Duarte Tereso and Maria Rita, she immigrated to Ludlow in 1978 where she worked for many years at Ludlow Textiles and Milton Bradley from where she retired. Laura was a faithful communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Indian Orchard and in her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, having lots of fun with the family dogs "Pickles" and "Shadow", and had a special talent for crocheting. She loved to make bedspreads, doilies and beautiful gifts for those she loved. While raising her family, she often made homemade treasures for them including dresses for her daughter’s dolls. Cooking and baking was her expertise and she was especially known for her “Rissóis de Camarão”. She also loved to dance and cherished traveling with her family. Laura was a beloved and devoted mother to Luis Vala and his wife Christine; and Dolores Braza and her husband John. She leaves two loving grandchildren Gavin and Morgan Vala which she enjoyed spending time with; all of Ludlow. She also leaves her dear sister Eliza Rita Neto, was predeceased by her siblings Ana Rita, Gertrudes Rita, Jose Tereso, and Maria Rita; and also leaves many loving extended family members and dear friends. A private service was held by Laura’s family in Island Pond Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Laura’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
