Obituary for Lawrence Reid
Lawrence A. Reid, 75, of Ludlow passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family on December 7, 2011. Born in Springfield on October 3, 1936 to the late Edwin and Alice (Sears) Reid, he has lived in Ludlow since 1963 and was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Parish. Larry was a 1954 Graduate of West Springfield High School and served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. He worked for many years at New England Telephone before retiring in 1989. He enjoyed family trips to Hampton Beach, fishing at the Quabbin, gardening and woodworking His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and attending their sporting events. Larry was the recipient of the Arthur Poitras Award which is given for excellence and dedication in coaching and promoting youth sports in Indian Orchard, Ludlow and Wilbraham. He started playing hockey at age eight in the Eddie Shore Junior Hockey League and continued to play through his High School years. In 1970 he joined the Ludlow Hockey Association and has been coaching ever since. He was a member of its executive board for over forty years serving as President, Director of Player Personnel and has been Ice Coordinator for the past 39 years, scheduling games and practices. Larry leaves his beloved wife of 52 years, Marion (Bouyea) Reid of Ludlow; loving children Elizabeth Sedelow of Lee, Ann-Marie Sarkis and her husband Joseph of West Springfield, William Reid and his wife Julie of Chicopee and Michael Reid of West Springfield; cherished grandfather to Jason, Gregory and Angela Sedelow, Laura and Anthony Sarkis, Christopher and Steven Reid and Kyleigh and Michael Reid; brother to William Reid and wife Roberta of Edgewater, FL., brother-in-law to Catherine Masley of Ludlow, Margaret Robillard of Pittsfield and Robert Bouyea and his wife Sylvia of Ludlow along with several nieces, nephews and numerous friends. Larry was predeceased by his sister and brother -in-law Shirley and George Wrinkle and their daughter Susan Mueller. Funeral services with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 8:00am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9:00am in St. Elizabeth Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours are on Friday evening from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Larry’s memory to the Ludlow Hockey Association P.O. Box 627 Ludlow, MA. 01056 or to Mercy Hospice, 1236 Main St. #202, Holyoke, MA. 01040.
