Obituary for Lenore Paul
Lenore Paul, of Center St., Ludlow, passed away at home on Sunday, February 1. The daughter of Elinor (Sullivan) and Gerald (Jerry) Paul, she was a life-long resident of Ludlow. A graduate of Ludlow High School, she went on to attend American International College (AIC) in Springfield where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education with a minor in English in 1970. She then completed her Master's degree and CAGS (Certificate in Advanced Graduate Studies) at AIC.
In 1970, Lenore began her career as a first grade teacher at Chapin Street Elementary School. She remained an educator in the Ludlow school system for the rest of her life, teaching fifth grade at first Chestnut St. and then Veterans Park schools. A life member of the National Science Teachers Association, she is remembered as a dynamic educator who delighted and inspired her students. An active parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption in Ludlow, she was Director of Religious Education for over 25 years, a recipient of the Pius X Award, and choir director for over 20 years. Lenore had a strong commitment to environmental issues and was active with a number of environmental organizations and commissions. She taught workshops for teachers through Mass. Agriculture in the Classroom and at area colleges. She was also a long-time precinct representative in Ludlow and a member of the Open Space Planning and Agricultural Commissions.
Lenore is survived by her sister Marilyn Paul-Lewis and her niece and nephew Rosaleen and Kyle Lewis of Ludlow, her uncle and godfather Roland Paul of Chicopee, and numerous cousins who live throughout the United States. She will be sorely missed by staff and students in the Ludlow school system, family, friends, and the many people whose lives she touched in such a positive manner throughout the years, especially Robert Belanger.
Funeral services will be on Monday, February 9, 2009 at 9am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Mary of the Assumption Church followed by burial in St. Michael's Cemetery.  Visiting hours  will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2009 from 1-3pm and 6-8pm.
