Obituary for Leo J. Roberts
Leo J. Roberts, 91, of Springfield, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Juana (Diaz) Roberts. Born and raised in Ludlow, he was the son of the late Arthur and Rose (Couture) Roberts. He was a World War II US Navy veteran serving on the USS Anthony (DD-515) in the Pacific. After his honorable discharge, he worked for many years in construction. He retired in 1987 after 22 years of service for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Sturbridge, MA.
He was pre-deceased by his brothers Arthur and Alfred “Red” Roberts, and his sister Emilda Costopoulos. He is survived by Juana, his wife of 60 years, and his sister Blanche McQuaid of Rohnert Park, CA. He also leaves behind his three daughters, Susan Meunier and her husband Marc, of Granby, CT, Carolyn Roberts Snodgrass of San Francisco, CA and Ann Hennessy and her husband John, of Granby, CT. Leo was the cherished grandfather of Jessica Meunier of Arlington, MA, Daniel Meunier of Clearwater, FL, Michael Snodgrass of Sacramento, CA, Aidan, Rachel and Conor Hennessy of Granby, CT. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
His family will receive friends and family on Tuesday, January 29th, from 11:15AM to 12:15PM at Ludlow Funeral Home, 432 East Street, Ludlow, MA, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1PM at St. Elizabeth Church, 181 Hubbard St, Ludlow, MA. He will be laid to rest with full military honors following the Mass at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam, MA.
