Obituary for Leo J. Thompson
Leo J. Thompson, 87, of Ludlow passed away peacefully on Saturday July 6, 2013. Born in Chicopee to Herbert and Pauline (Szelag) Thompson, he attended the Chicopee Public Schools and upon graduation enlisted in the United States Army. Leo served his country during WWII in the European Theater with the 443rd Ord HAM Company and was honorably discharged in 1946. He worked for Savage Arms in Westfield as a gun polisher for 26 years and Smith and Wesson for 18 years, retiring in 1991. After retiring, Leo worked at Big Y in Ludlow for 9 years as a service clerk. Leo was a former communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, a lifetime Charter Member of the Ludlow Lodge of Elks 2448 and a proud member of the American Legion Post 277 in Indian Orchard. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 47 years Arlene (Mancini) Thompson in 2008 and his son, Ludlow Firefighter Robert Thompson in 1999. He leaves his caring daughter-in-law Deborah Thompson of Ludlow; cherished granddaughters Shannon Stowers and her Husband Doug of West Springfield and Kristy Wells and her husband Mike of Framingham; great-grandsons, Jackson Robert Wells and Sawyer Michael Wells; his sisters Theresa Salvador and her husband Francisco of Ludlow and Eva Kukla of Maryland, and a brother Wilfred Thompson and his wife Cecile of Daytona, Florida as well as many nieces and nephews. Sadly Leo was also predeceased by his sisters Lorraine Seger and Marlene Murphy. Funeral services for Leo will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 from the Ludlow Funeral Home. Visiting hours are Wednesday morning only from 9:00-10:45am followed by a chapel service at the funeral home, with burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery.
