Obituary for LeRoy W. Dennis
LeRoy W. Dennis, 94, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully at home on April 18, 2020 with his family by his side He was born in Springfield on September 27, 1925, the first born to Wilfred "Joe" and Luella (Abair) Dennis. While growing up, he worked on the farm and also sold eggs and chickens. At age 17, LeRoy enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp/Air Force, proudly serving during WWII, and retired from his military service as an airplane mechanic in 1985. During his service, he was a 905th Cam Squadron Aircraft mechanic. He painted s B-25 H Mitchell airplane that ended up becoming a model toy by Monogram, which was called "LeRoy's Joy". Upon marriage, LeRoy moved to Ludlow where he was a faithful communicant of St. Elizabeth Parish formerly St. John the Baptist Church. LeRoy continued his love for airplanes into his retirement and enjoyed building radio controlled airplanes. In his spare time, LeRoy had a passion for fishing, camping in New Hampshire, watching his favorite show "Wicked Tuna" as well as playing the trumpet and the harmonica, which he learned to play while overseas. LeRoy was the beloved husband of the late Alice T. (Duquette) Dennis, who predeceased him on March 14, 2016; a loving father to Robert Dennis, of Ludlow, James Dennis and wife Michelle, of South Hadley, Martin Dennis and wife Angela, of Springfield, Brian Dennis and wife Katy, of Ludlow, Ann Marie Moreau and husband Mike, of Ludlow, and the late Michael Dennis and late wife Bev; a cherished grandfather of 11; a dear brother-in-law to Elzear Duquette, Jr, of Ludlow, Richard and Paulette Duquette, of West Springfield, Claire DeBlois, of Springfield, and Lucille Duquette, of Springfield; as well as many loving extended family members and dear friends. The Dennis family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Baystate Hospice for their dedicated services in their time of need. Private services for LeRoy will be held by his family with a Public Celebration of Life Service to be held at a later date to be announced in St. Elizabeth Parish. Ludlow Funeral Home has been entrusted with his care and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in LeRoy's memory to St. Elizabeth Parish 191 Hubbard St. Ludlow, Ma. 01056.
