FUNERAL INFORMATION: Funeral services will be held on Friday November 2, 2012. Friends and family are asked to gather directly for a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church. Burial will be held at a later date in Cemeterio de Moimenta, Portugal. There are no visiting hours.
Lidia (Martins) Fernandes, 92, of Ludlow, passed away on Saturday evening October 27, 2012 with her caring family by her side. Born in Ludlow to the late Jose and Clara (Mendes) Martins, she was life long resident and faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. Lidia was the beloved wife of the late Joaquim Bastos who predeceased her in 1986. She leaves her loving and caring family who will miss her greatly; her sons Manuel Bastos and wife Maria Ceu of Ludlow, Ernesto Bastos and wife Gloria of Portugal and Fernando Bastos and wife Maria of Portugal; her daughter Maria Bastos of Ludlow; many adored grandchildren and great-grandchildren, both here and in Portugal; as well as several nieces, nephews, family, and friends both in Ludlow and Portugal; Lidia also leaves her brother Joaquim Martin and wife Clara of Ludlow, and her sister-in-law Rosaria Carvalho in Portugal. Sadly she was predeceased by her sons, Antonio and Jose Bastos her brothers Antonio and Domingos Martins, a sister Alzira Martins and a son-in-law Jose Joaquim Ferreira.
