Obituary for Lucia M. (Quiterio) Lopes
Lucia M. (Quiterio) Lopes passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 30, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Benedita, Portugal, she was a longtime Ludlow resident and lifelong member, faithful communicant, former ccd teacher, and soloist in the choir of Our Lady of Fatima Church. Lucia, along with her beloved husband, was an entrepreneur, business woman and the former owners of Restaurante Caravela before retiring. She also loved music, singing, cooking, drawing florals, gardening, traveling, and also wrote a column for a Portuguese newspaper where she gave life guidance, her recipes, and poems; but Lucia’s passion in life was spending time with her loving family. Lucia was the beloved wife of 58 years to Francisco A. (Joao) Lopes; the loving mother of Natalia Lopes and Manuel Q. Lopes, both of Ludlow, Zita Lopes Kerr and husband Brian, of Henderson, NV, and Trinda Nehmer and husband David of Ludlow and FL; a cherished grandmother to Janice, Gregory, Elissa, Francisco II, Jaclyn, Thomas, and Brandon; the cherished great-grandmother of Connor, Preston, Blake, Alexa Lucia and Liam; a dear sister to Eduardo, Raimundo, Antonio, and Arnaldo Quiterio, Zita Agostinho, and the late Eduarda Mateus; and also leaves her many loving in-laws of the Joao and Quiterio families, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and her dear friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 9:00am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday evening from 4:00 - 7:00.
