Obituary for Luis A. Gomes
Luis Gomes, 74, of Ludlow passed away peacefully on Saturday June 29, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Vale Covo, Bombarral, Portugal he was the son of the late Jose Miguel and Gertrudes (Agostinho) Gomes. Luis was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Parish a proud member of the Gremio Lusitano Club and a fan of Benfica F.C. Luis worked in construction field for over 50 years and was the founder of Gomes Construction in 1987 and Ginmar Enterprise. He enjoyed working in the company that he founded, but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his cherished family and friends. Luis leaves his beloved wife of 50 years, Elvira “Vera” (Luiz) Gomes of Ludlow; a loving father to Mark Gomes and his wife Sherri and Gina Fernandes and her husband Joe all of Ludlow; caring grandfather to Ryan and Derek Gomes and Lucas Fernandes also of Ludlow; brother of Marcos A. Gomes and his wife and Maria Jose Nicolau and her husband, both of Portugal. He also leaves his sister-in-law Antonia Carvalho, his brother-in-law Jack Luiz and his wife Phyllis along with his nieces and nephews, Pedro Miguel Nicolau, Luis Gomes, Elizabeth Fernandes, Joel Carvalho and Jenna and Chris Luiz; as well as a community of extended friends and family, he will be missed and loved by all who knew him. Funeral services for Luis will be held on Saturday July 6th, 2013 at 9:00am from Ludlow Funeral Home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated in Our Lady of Fatima Church at 10:00am with burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours are Friday evening from 4:00-7:00pm.
