Obituary for Lynda A. (Merkel) Scheer
Lynda A. (Merkel) Scheer, 77, of Ludlow passed away unexpectedly at home on February 26, 2022. Born in Salem, MA., daughter of the late Gordon and Edith (Mansfield) Merkel, she was a graduate of Ludlow High School. She attended Nathaniel Hawthorne College, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in English Literature and went on to further her studies at American International College. She earned a Masters Degree in Education as well as an advanced reading specialist degree, all while tutoring at the Curtis Blake Day School. Lynda worked for the West Springfield Public School District as a Special Education teacher, where she enjoyed helping middle school students reach their full potential. In her retirement, Lynda continued her love for reading by writing several children's book manuscripts. When she was not writing, Lynda loved a good Sudoku or crossword puzzle. She was an avid bird watcher and gardener. Lynda was a decades long Girl Scout Leader and school volunteer. She liked to stay fit by swimming laps at the Ludlow Boys' and Girls' Club, as well as strength training. Lynda was a proud Precinct 6 voter and enjoyed being a voice for the community. Lynda's biggest passion, by far, was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Lynda was the beloved wife of 53 years to her recently deceased husband Robert Scheer; a devoted mother to Deb Burnett, of Wilbraham; Darren Scheer and wife Amy, of Tampa, FL; Carolyn Scheer and husband Todd Williams, of Southwick; Jason Scheer of Ludlow; and the late Eric Scheer; a cherished grandmother to Kyra Lagoy and husband Ross, Brittany Burnett, Zain Chandler, Kaylah, Caius, and Kaleah Scheer, Chloe and Ella Williams, and the late Jalynn Scheer; a dear sister-in-law to Bill Scheer and wife Lou, Cathy Cuerden, and Fred Scheer; she also leaves many extended family members and dear friends. Funeral services will be held privately by her family.
