Obituary for Manuel Chelo
Manuel “Manny” A. Chelo, 48, of Ludlow, died peacefully on May 4, 2012 at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his father João Vaz Chelo Jr. in 1990, and is survived by his devoted mother Lucinda (Aleixo) Chelo. Born in Santo Andre, Portugal, he lived most of his life in Ludlow. Manny was a 1981 graduate of Ludlow High School and was employed in the construction industry for many years. Manny was an avid outdoorsman, and had a passion for soccer, softball, hunting, fishing, and birds, as well as spending time with his friends and family. Manny was the caring brother to John Chelo & his fiancée Candida Ferreira, Augusto Chelo & his wife Grace, Anna Martins & her husband Tony, Saul Chelo & his friend Dorena Roulston, and the late Antonio Chelo, all of Ludlow; Manny will be missed by his many loving nieces and nephews; Nancy Coelho & her husband Danny, Jason Chelo, godson Christopher Chelo, Kevin Chelo, Jennifer Estrada & husband Frank, Alexia Chelo, Nicholas Chelo, Beatriz Chelo & grand-nephew Alexander Coelho; also several aunts, uncles, and cousins as well as many friends throughout the community, Brazil and Europe. Manny’s family would like to extent a heartfelt thank you to Staff of the Baystate Medical center ICU Unit, especially nurses Charlie and Colleen for the compassionate care they gave to him. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 9:00am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours are Monday evening from 4:00-7:00pm.
