Obituary for Manuel "Manny" Saloio

Manuel “Manny” Saloio, was called safely home to God, at the age of 94, on Thursday, June 20, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. A life-long resident of Ludlow, he was born on August 13, 1929, to the late Armelin and Luciana (Ribeiro) Saloio. Manny served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. Upon discharge, he promptly married the love of his life, the late Ida (Silva) Saloio. The two lived a beautiful example of devotion to one another and to their Catholic faith.

He cherished growing up in the large Saloio family and the gift of music they shared. He was an accomplished pitcher and was inducted into the Ludlow High School Sports hall of Fame. Manny retired from a career at Metropolitan Life but loved to share stories of his early days of driving to farms collecting milk for the Daylight Dairy. A longtime member of Ludlow C.C, he adored the game of golf. In retirement he was a golf coach for Wilbraham Monson Academy and for anyone else who sought his wisdom of the game. He will long be remembered for his quick wit and masterful “pun” making.

Manuel was predeceased by his beloved son, Robert, his siblings, Jose, Irene (Methe), Ida (Santos) Aremelin, Carlos and James. He leaves to cherish his memory his brothers; Arthur and Raymond, his children; Susan LaMondia (Thomas), Thomas, (Susan Lapan), his grandchildren Michael, Andrea, Katelyn, Allyson, Matthew, Shelby, Sara and Samantha and his great grandchildren; Brooklyn, Indy, Amelia, Mallory and many nieces and nephews.
