Obituary for Manuel "Moon" Coelho
Manuel "Moon" Coelho, 81, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on, Monday, August 25th, surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Ludlow, son of the late Manuel and Claudina (Lopes) Coelho, he was a lifelong resident and a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church.  Manuel was a United States Navy Veteran and served his country honorably during WWII earning the WWII Victory, American Theatre and Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medals.  He worked for 35 years as an auto mechanic and service manager for various local auto dealerships and more recently at American Bosch before retiring in 1991. He was an avid NY Yankees fan and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play in various sporting events.  Manuel was the beloved husband of 54 years to Mary (Monteiro) Coelho; a loving father to Karen Ferreira, of Springfield, Sandra Polom and her husband Francis, of Wilbraham, Kevin Coelho and his wife Dana, of Waterbury, CT, and Jeffrey Coelho and his wife Colleen, of Ludlow; a dear brother to Ray Coelho and his wife Kay, Jack Coelho and his wife Alice, Mary Bernardo and her husband Omer, and the late Ida Zina and her late husband Joseph all of Ludlow; brother-in-law to Armand Monterio and wife Simone of Ludlow, Tony Monteiro and wife Dolores of Springfield, Zora Gonsalves and her late husband Manny, and Luisa Monteiro all of Ludlow; a cherished grandfather to Ashley Coelho, Cara and Corey Polom, and Todd, Alyssa, Tara and Avery Coelho.  Manuel also leaves several nieces and nephews including his loving godchildren Annmarie Correia, Richard Coelho and Mark Gonsalves; as well as many other loving family members and dear friends.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 29th at 9:00 am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Fatima Church at 10:00 am followed by a Military Honors burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery.  Visiting hours are on Thursday from 4-7pm.  Moon's family would also like to thank the Holyoke Soldiers Home nursing staff on 3-East and 3-North for their caring support.
