Obituary for Manuel Moutinho, Jr.
Manuel ‘Manny’ Moutinho Jr., 91, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on June, 26, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Ludlow, son of the late Manuel and Maria (Lage) Moutinho, he was a lifelong resident where he was a 1949 graduate of Ludlow High School and member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish. Manny was a United States Army Veteran proudly serving during the Korean War and met his wife Betty in New Orleans while stationed in Ft. Benning, GA in 1954. After his military service, he went on to further his education as an undergrad at the University of Virginia and completed his law degree from Boston College Law School. In addition to his career as an attorney, he served on Ludlow Town Council and as Deputy Commissioner of Probation; but he took the greatest pride in his devotion as a loving husband and exceptional father. Manny had a great sense of humor and treated everyone with respect. He believed in the value of hard work and dedication and compassion for others. He loved to travel with his wife and experience all aspects of life. He also enjoyed playing and watching sports. Manny was an avid soccer, basketball, tennis player and golfer as well as an avid Boston Red Sox, Bruins and New England Patriots fan.
Manny is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty; his children, Maria E. Moutinho, MD and Angel Martinez of Jacksonville Beach, FL; Atty. Manuel A. Moutinho III and wife Laura Moutinho of Ludlow, MA ; Thomas J. Moutinho and wife Michelle Moutinho of Gorham, ME; Joanne D. White and husband Donald White of New Britain, CT; grandchildren: Elizabeth Healy and husband Paul Gaffney, III. of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Manuel Moutinho IV, MD and wife Mallory of Coventry, CT; Atty Nicholas Moutinho and wife Sana of Ludlow, MA, Jennifer Bowidowicz PhD and husband Andrew Bowidowicz of Bowdoinham, ME, Dr. Thomas Moutinho Jr. PhD and wife Melissa Hey PhD of Burlington, MA, Joseph Moutinho and wife Rosemary Moutinho of Standish, ME; great grandchildren: Paul Cotter Gaffney IV , Manuel Moutinho V, Lia Moutinho, Penny Moutinho, and Cecilia Moutinho; as well as many extended family members and dear friends. Manny was predeceased by his 3 brothers: Carmin Moutinho, Arthur Moutinho, and Fernando Moutinho. Funeral services for Manny were held privately by his family with Ludlow Funeral Home with burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
