Obituary for Marcellino "Marce" Silva
Marcellino “Marce” Silva, 84, of Ludlow, was called to Heaven on September 29, 2007. Born in Springfield, the son of the late Marcelino and Helena (Afonso) Silva, he was a lifelong resident of Ludlow. He was a retired 31 year educator in Ludlow and former principal of East Street School. Marcellino was educated in the Ludlow public schools and graduated from Ludlow High School in 1941. In 1954, he graduated from AIC where he received a Batchelor’s Degree and a Master’s degree in Education. Prior to becoming principal, Mr. Silva served 1 year as Program Director at the Ludlow Boy’s and Girl’s Club and 10 years as a sixth grade teacher in the Ludlow school system. He was an Army Veteran of WWII and graduated from the Ordnance School in Aberdeen, MD. He served with the Ordnance Dept. for a period of 2 years in the European Theatre of Operations. Marce was a lifetime member of the National Education Association, a member of Ma. Elementary School Principal’s Association, the Portuguese American Citizens Club, American Assoc. of Retired Persons, Retired State and County Municipal Employees Assc., Town Insurance Committee and was a avid golfer and longtime member of Ludlow Country Club where he had 4 hole in 1’s. He was also former president of the Ludlow Education Assc. and New England Division of American Soccer League, a member of Lusitano Alumni and Fans, and a referee for Pioneer Valley Soccer Officials. Marcellino is survived by 5 children Mrs. Sara Ann Calinao and Mrs. Tamsin Hall, both of Middleburg, FL., Judy Silva of Mooresville, NC., Peter Silva of Granby and Donald Silva, of Port Charlotte, FL.; a sister, Mrs. Ermina Marques of Ludlow; 2 nieces Susan Ribeiro and Ashley deJong; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Funeral services are on Thursday morning at 9am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visiting hours are on Wednesday from 5-8pm and donations may be made in Marce’s memory to Our Lady of Fatima Parish Center Fund 438 Winsor St. Ludlow, Ma. 01056 or Ludlow Boy’s and Girl’s Club Claudia Way Ludlow, Ma. 01056.
