Obituary for Maria (Afonso Crespo) Oliveira
Maria (Afonso Crespo) Oliveira, 80, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully at home on March 22, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Padornelos, Portugal on July 29, 1931, daughter of the late Abel and Maria (Juliano) Crespo, she lived in Ludlow for 43 years and was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. Maria worked for many years at Unifirst Corp. before retiring. In her spare time Maria, enjoyed crocheting and traveling to the beach every year, but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. Maria was the beloved wife of the late Germano Oliveira, who predeceased her in 2010; a loving mother and mother-in-law to Ines Coelho and husband Antonio, Laurie (Lourdes) Afonso, Maria Machado and husband Jack, Mario Oliveira, and Nancy Teixeira and husband Carlos, all of Ludlow; a cherished grandmother to Justin, Jessica, Adam, Karyna, Andrew, Joshua, Jordan, Joseph A., Mario, Selina, and Joseph T.; adored great-grandmother to Alexis and Julian; a dear sister to Aurora Lopes and Lucinda Alves, of Portugal, Joaquim Crespo, of Wilbraham, Antonio Crespo and Ilda Alves, of Ludlow, and the late Rosa Garcia; and also leaves many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Maria's dear sisters in law who supported them through this difficult time. Funeral services are on Monday morning at 9am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian burial at 10am in our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours are on Sunday from 4-7pm.
