Obituary for Maria (Aleixo) Barros
Maria (Aleixo) Barros, 80, formerly of East St. was called to Heaven on October 15, 2006, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Santo Andre, Montalegre, Portugal, the daughter of the late Cipriano and Maria (Martins) Aleixo, she came to Ludlow in 1973 where she was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. She worked for many years at the Ludlow Mills and for 15 years at the former Ludlow Hospital before retiring. Maria was the beloved wife of the late Americo Barros who predeceased her in 1982; a loving mother to Fernando Barros of Ludlow and the late Antonio “Tony” Barros and mother-in-law to Elsa Barros of Ludlow; a dear sister to Lucinda Chelo, Aurora Garcia and Ilda Pereira, all of Ludlow; and a cherished grandmother to Michael, Brian, Elizabeth and Daniel Fernando Barros. Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 9am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Fatima Church at 10am, followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 5-8pm.
