Obituary for Maria (Alves) Gomes
Maria (Alves) Gomes, 75, of Indian Orchard passed away peacefully on September 9th, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. Maria was born in Montalegre, Portugal to the late Jose Joaquin and Esperansa Alves. She has lived in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield since 1970 and was a former communicant of St. Jude Church. She was the beloved wife of the late Francisco Gomes who predeceased her in 1969. Maria leaves her loving children, Jorge Gomes and his wife Debbie of Tampa, John Gomes and his wife Christina of Long Island, Arminda A. Auger and her husband Robert of Wilbraham and Deolinda G. Grasso of Tampa; cherished grandchildren, Deidra, Josh, Sabrina, Jennifer, Jonathan, Jessica and Justin; 2 great-granddaughters Elena and Adriana; her caring brother Francisco Alves and his wife Maria of Ludlow, her sisters Teresa DosSantos and husband Joao of Indian Orchard and Maria Afonso and husband Jose of Ludlow. Sadly Maria was predeceased by 2 sisters and 1 brother. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday September 13th, 2011 at 9:00am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Mary Mother of Hope Church in Springfield at 10:00am followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visiting hours are Monday evening from 4:00-7:00pm.
