Obituary for Maria Augusta Salvador
Maria Augusta Salvador, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Oura, Chaves, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Jose Pinto Varandas and Maria de Conceicao Varandas. Maria immigrated to Ludlow, where she became a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. She worked for many years at Big Y, Spalding, Smith & Wesson, and Tony & Penny’s Restaurant.
Maria was the beloved wife of 57 years to Joaquim Salvador; a devoted mother to Dianne St. Peter, her partner Kevin Almeida, Joe Salvador and wife Liz; and a loving sister to the late Jose Varandas and Maria Assunção Ferreira.
She was a cherished grandmother to Matthew (Shanon), Adam (Tori), and Amanda Hilario; Aaron St. Peter; and Lukas and Cameron Salvador, and an adoring great-grandmother to Matthew Hilario Jr., Lily and Sunny Hilario, and especially to sweet Olivia Hilario, who passed this April and is deeply missed. Maria was also a proud godmother to Susie Cunha; a loving aunt to many, including Mize Gonçalves (Jose Marques), Paulo Varandas, Rui Varandas (Susanne), Ismael Ferreira (Fernanda), Paulo Ferreira (Isabel), and Luisa Ferreira (Rui); and a beloved “Tia” to countless nieces and nephews in the extended Salvador family. She leaves behind many dear friends.
Maria was happiest when her home was filled with her grandchildren. She loved her family deeply, lived her faith wholeheartedly, and took joy in making sure everyone felt cared for. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Life Care Center of Wilbraham for their exceptional care, kindness, and compassion.
Funeral services for Maria will be held on Saturday, November 15th. Visiting hours are from 8:30 to 10:15 AM at Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian burial at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Parish followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Fatima Church in Ludlow, in honor of Maria’s enduring faith and love for the church community.
