Obituary for Maria Batista (Gomes) Marques
Maria Batista (Gomes) Marques, 89, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 10, 1936 in Guarda-Faia do Mondego, Portugal and immigrated to the United States settling in Ludlow where she was a devoted communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Parish. Maria prided herself with hard work, often working two jobs. She worked for many years at various manufacturing companies, Cavalier Catering and most recently for Friendly's Corp from where she retired. She showed love through her cooking and none of us will forget all of her special meals. She also had a passion for gardening and crocheting; but above all, she loved spending time with her beloved family. especially during the holidays.
Maria was the beloved wife of 59 years to Jose Marques until his passing in 2016; and loving mother to Norberto Lopes and wife Irene, and Jose Marques and wife Leigh; a devoted grandmother to Nicole and husband Ron, Stephen, Elias, and Mattingly; great grandmother to Madden Ivy; a dear sister to her late siblings Lourdes, Joaquina, Carma, Joaquim, and Gloria; and also leaves many loving extended family members and friends.
Maria’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to the nurses and staff at Life Care Center of Wilbraham for the exceptional care they provided her.
Funeral services for Maria will be held on Monday, November 17th. Visiting hours are from 9:00-10:15am with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Parish followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery.
