Obituary for Maria Casimira (Batista) Malaquias
Maria Casimira (Batista) Malaquias, 78, of Lavoie Ave., passed away peacefully on Monday, May, 7, 2007, surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Sobral da Lagoa, Obidos, Portugal, the daughter of the late Antonio Batista Santos and Rosa Maria, she came to Ludlow in 1966 where she was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church and former member of the Portuguese American Citizens Club.  She worked for many years at Chicopee Undergarment before her retirement and loved to crochet, knit and spend time with her many pets including Fluffy, Daisy and her Cockateel.  Maria was the beloved wife of the late Orlando Malaquias, who predeceased her on May 7, 1997; a loving mother to James Malaquias and his wife Maria Ines and Antonio Malaquias, all of Ludlow; a dear sister to the late Jaime Santos, who predeceased her in 1977; a cherished grandmother to Lisa Colson and her husband Raymond, Angela Cardinal and her husband K.J., Corey and Richard Malaquias, and the late Michael Malaquias, who predeceased her in 2006; cherished great grandmother to Samantha, Jaden, Ryan, Julia and Kassie and also leaves her beloved sister-in-law Maria Amelia Santos, granddaughter-in-law Lisette Malaquias, several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.  Funeral services are on Friday morning at 9am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery.  Visiting hours are on Thursday from 4-7pm and memorial donations may be made in Maria’s memory to Western Mass ElderCare 4 Valley Mill Rd. Holyoke, Ma. 01040.
