Obituary for Maria (Correia) Cruz
Maria (Correia) Cruz, 56 of Indian Orchard passed away peacefully on Saturday November 24, 2012, with her loving family by her side. Born in Sarraquinhos, Tras os Montes Portugal, she has lived in Indian Orchard for many years and was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Ludlow. Maria leaves her beloved parents Fernando and Maria Correia of Ludlow; her loving brothers and sisters, Celso Afonso and his wife Grace of Brazil, Celso Correia and his wife Betsy of Ludlow, Julia Almeida and her husband Joe of Ludlow and Paula Pinto and her husband Edward of Ludlow; she also leaves her dear companion of 35 years Ilidio Cruz of Indian Orchard along with many family and friends throughout the community, especially her nieces and nephews who she enjoyed spending time with. Sadly Maria was predeceased by her two sons Fernando Joaquim Cruz in 1987 and Nelson Antonio Cruz in 1997 as well as her brother Antonio Afonso and his wife Ana Maria Afonso. Maria’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at the Baystate Medical Center ICU Unit for the compassionate care they showed them during this difficult time. Funeral services for Maria will be held on Wednesday November 28, 2012 at 8:00am from Ludlow Funeral Home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church, interment will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visiting hours are Tuesday evening from 4:00-7:00pm and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to: D’Amour Center for Cancer care, 3350 Main St., Springfield, MA. 01107.
