Obituary for Maria Fernanda Almeida
Maria Fernanda Almeida, 67, formerly of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Peniche, Portugal, she was the daughter of Josė Marques Ferreira Belo and Maria Alzira Ferreira Mendes. Maria immigrated to the United States at the age of 14 where she settled in Ludlow and was a 1975 graduate of Ludlow High School. She worked for many years at Aetna, Hartford Hospital, and most recently at Spaulding from where she retired. Her many passions included crocheting, listening to Portuguese music, raising her birds, and spending time with her family, her cat Jenny, and especially her grandchildren. Maria was the beloved mother of Nancy Belo Almeida and partner Orlando Palmer, of Indian Orchard, Elizabeth Belo Fuda, of Ludlow, and David Belo Ribeiro and partner Albert Kenyon, of Chicopee; a devoted grandmother to Amaya Almeida, Olivanna, Maliah, and Nylah Palmer, and Miela and Eli Fuda; a dear sister to Maria Da Graca Ferreira Belo Marques, of Hartford CT, Victor Manuel Ferreira Belo, of Portugal, and the late Arsenio Marques Belo and Norberto Mendes Belo; and also leaves many loving extended family members and dear friends. Funeral services for Maria will be held on Wednesday, February 26th at Ludlow Funeral Home. Visiting hours will be held from 10:00-11:00am concluding with a service at 11:00am followed by burial in Reservoir Cemetery. Donations may be in Maria’s memory directly to the funeral home to offset funeral expenses.
