Obituary for Maria (Ferreira) Gomes
Maria (Ferreira) Gomes, 91, of Ludlow was called safely home on Saturday, January 26, 2008. Born in Sao Juliao, Chaves, Portugal she has resided in Ludlow since 1960 and was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima. She enjoyed Wheel of Fortune and beating her son, Tony, in the Portuguese card game Bisca, but most of all she loved her cherished and devoted family. She leaves her son Tony Gomes and his wife Karen of Wilbraham, daughters Leonilde Gomes and her husband David and Maria Afonso and her husband Moises both of Ludlow; loving grandchildren Eleuteria Afonso, Odete Bernardo, Moises Afonso Jr., Terry Gomes, Laura Gomes, Anthony Gomes and Valerie Gomes; great-grandchildren Adam and Vanessa Bernardo; several caring family and friends throughout the community, especially Ana Goncalves. Maria was predeceased by her beloved husband Antonio who passed away in 1999 and a daughter Eleuteria in 1966 as well as her sisters Claudina Santos and Agueda Ferreira and a brother Diamantino Ferreira. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 29th, 2008 at 9:00AM from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Monday evening from 4-7PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Maria’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
