Obituary for Maria (Gomes) Pires
Maria Carma (Gomes) Pires, 89, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Faia Do Mondego,Guarda, Portugal, daughter of the late Elias and Augusta (Batista) Gomes, she immigrated to the U.S. in 1970. Maria worked for Service Rubber for many years and eventually retired from there. She was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Parish and loved her church. Maria's love and pride was her family, she made it a point to tell everyone she knew and met how wonderful her family was. When Maria wasn't spending time with her family, she would be out in her garden or in her kitchen making her favorite meals for family and friends. Maria was the faithful and loving wife for 63 years to husband Jose Pires, their love for each other was everlasting. Maria's second love of her life was her daughter Judy, they were each other's best friend and spent so much quality time together. She leaves her daughter Judy Ribeiro and husband Victor of Ludlow. Maria was a dear sister to Maria Marques/Jose (deceased), She was predeceased by sisters Lurdes Gomes, Joaquina Lopes/Manuel, Gloria Monteiro/Antonio and Brother Joaquim Gomes/Maria; and also leaves many loving nieces and nephews and extended family members here and in Portugal. At this time Maria's family would also like to thank Donny Dominique and Lea DosSantos for their loving support and care, along with Hospice and a special thank you to her nurse Meghan. Funeral services for Maria will be held on Saturday January 14, 2023 from the Ludlow Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday morning from 9:15-10:15am at the Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Mass celebrated at 11:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Maria’s memory to: Our Lady of Fatima Church.
