Obituary for Maria (Leitao) Amaral
Maria (Leitao) Amaral, 86, of Ludlow passed away at home in the loving arms of her family on April 26, 2011. Born in Proenca-a-Velha, Beira Biaxa, Portugal to the late Manuel and Martinha (do Nascimento) Leitao. She and her late husband Antonio Amaral brought their family here in 1967. She retired from Milton Bradley/Hasbro after working there for more than 20 years. Maria will be remembered as the matriarch of her family, always strong and always there for them. She loved her family and traveled to Portugal with her grandsons Miguel and Anthony where she shared the history of her family and her homeland. Maria leaves her cherished children; Francisco Leitao Amaral, Maria Fatima Amaral, John Leitao Amaral, and Grace Leitao Matos. Her grandchildren, Miguel Gomes, Jennifer Amaral, Dominick Matos and Anthony Amaral will miss their beloved Avo as will her brothers Jose Leitao, Joao Leitao and Francisco Leitao. She joins her husband Antonio and daughter Ressurreicao in heavenly peace. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 29th, 2011 at 8:00 am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated in Our Lady of Fatima Church at 9:00 AM, followed by a burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours are Thursday evening from 5:00 – 8:00 pm.
