Obituary for Maria Luisa Aguiar

Maria Luisa Aguiar, 95, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025, at home surrounded by the love and comfort of her devoted family. Born in Penalonga, Portugal, to the late Jose Goncalves and Dorinda de Sousa Aguiar, Maria immigrated to Ludlow in 2002. Maria was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church and held a profound devotion to Our Lady of Fatima to guide her throughout her life. Maria found joy in sewing, gardening, nurturing her fruit trees, and making her own wine and jam. She cherished her visits to Portugal, but above all, Maria treasured the time spent with her family. Maria was a resilient, independent, and hardworking woman, known for her strength of character and her boundless love for her family. As an only child, she was proud to have built a large and loving family, often saying, “Isto veio tudo de mim,” a testament to the love and effort she invested in her family’s growth and unity. Maria was predeceased by her husband, Antonio Martins in 2002; her grandson, Hermano Jose Marques in 1976; her son-in-law Jose Marques in 2016; and her grandson-in-law Michael Malaquias in 2006. Maria is survived by her beloved family, who will carry her memory with love and gratitude, son Olimpio Martins and wife Maria of Shelton, CT; daughters Benvinda Marques, Carmina Silva and husband Jose, and Maria Dulce Silva and husband Manuel all of Ludlow. Dear grandchildren Dina Quiterio (Angelo); Helder Silva (Crystal); Licinio Silva (Carla); Tino Martins (Meghan); Bela Machado (Vitor); Lisette Malaquias (Tim); Paulo Martins (Christine); Susana Marques; Vania Costa (Jeff); and Brian Silva. Cherished great-grandchildren Dylan, Jaden, Tyler, Kassie, Gabriela, Hunter, Maddie, Karina, Aiden, Nadia, Logan, Oliver, Marcelo, Juliette, Carolina, Weston, Cecelia. The family extends a heartfelt gratitude to Frei Pedro and Luiz, Dr. Vinagre and his staff, and Beacon Hospice nurses for their care and support during this challenging time.

Funeral services will be held on Friday March 28, 2025. Visiting hours will begin at 8:45 at Ludlow Funeral Home. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, followed by entombment at Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Tinkham Road, Springfield, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Maria's memory to Our Lady of Fatima Parish.
