Obituary for Maria (Machado) Santos
Maria “Gloria” (Machado) Santos, 92, of Indian Orchard passed away peacefully on Thursday June 7, 2012 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family. Born in Soutelo, Portugal to the late Jose and Bertha Machado she has lived in Indian Orchard since 1951. Maria was a faithful communicant of St. Judes Church in Indian Orchard and worked for many years at Smith and Wesson before her retirement in 1980. Maria leaves her beloved husband of 63 years, Manuel Santos of Indian Orchard; loving children Manuel Santos Jr. of Indian Orchard and Celeste Silva and her husband John of Springfield; cherished grandchildren Stephanie Stevens and her husband Mike and Kimberly Holt and her husband Billy; adored great-grandchildren Emma, Maggie, Paige, Kate and Ted. Her caregiver and friend Helen Williams as well as her extended family. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday June 9, 2012 at 10:00am from Ludlow Funeral Home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Immaculate Conception Church in Indian Orchard with burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visiting hours are Friday evening from 4:00-7:00pm and in lieu of flowers, Maria’s family has asked that donations be made in her memory to: Boston Childrens Hospital, C/O Hospital Trust, 1 Autumn St. #731, Boston, MA. 02215.
