Obituary for Maria (Marques) Martins
Maria doCarmo (Marques) Martins, 96, of Ludlow passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 28, 2020. She was born in Faia do Mondego, Guarda, Portugal. She immigrated with her family to the United States in 1970 and settled in Ludlow. She was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. She was a diligent, hard worker throughout her life and worked many years at Milton Bradley until retiring in 1988. Her pride and joy was tending to her beautiful flower gardens and vegetable garden and then sharing the crops with her family and friends. She loved spending time with her loving family, and the bigger the gathering the happier she was. She had a spirit to be reckoned with, so strong and determined, but yet a heart of gold. She was the beloved wife of the late Joaquim Martins who predeceased her in 1995. She will be forever missed by her loving children: Antonio Martins of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Jose Martins and his wife Maria (Ceu) of Springfield, Maria Fatima Gomes and her husband Luis of Ludlow, and Helena Figueiredo and her husband Carlos of Ludlow; her adored grandchildren Jack, Isabel, Dulce, Francisco, Paulo, Angela, and Cassandra; as well as 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; her siblings Maria (Joaquina) Marques, Maria (Lurdes) Pires, Mercedes Goncalves, Zefrino Marques all of Ludlow, Berta Costa of Portugal and Idalina Gomes of Argentina; and many nieces and nephews. Sadly she was predeceased by her grandson Eugenio Gomes, her sister Diolinda Cabido and two brothers Jose Marques and Joaquim Lopes. The family extends deep gratitude for the exceptional, loving care by the caregivers at Life Care Center of Wilbraham. Funeral services for Maria will be held privately by her family and Ludlow Funeral Home has been entrusted with her arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Life Care Center of Wilbraham-Activities or to Our Lady of Fatima Church in Ludlow.
