Obituary for Maria Mendonca Vilas
Maria (Mendonca) Vilas, 87, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully at home on January 30, 2021 with her loving family by her side. She was born in Arao, Valenca, Portugal where she was a faithful member of Igrega Sao Salvador. She spent her life residing in both Portugal and the U.S., and her spare time, Maria enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family and canine companion Mila. Maria was the beloved wife of the late Antonio Rodrigues Viana Pinho; a loving mother to Silvina Cerqueira and her late husband Emidio; and a cherished grandmother to Helder Cerqueira, of Ludlow, and Daisy Parker and husband Terrence, of Haverhill; and was predeceased by her brother Antonio Mendonca Vilas. Maria also leaves many loving extended family members and dear friends both here and in Portugal including her PCA Fatima Stanek, and friends Helena Alves and Prisanto Costa,
all of whom were faithfully by her side in these last weeks before her passing. Her family also wishes to extend their gratitude to the nurses and staff of Baystate Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion. Visiting hours for Maria will be held on Thursday, February 4th from 9:30-10:30am in Ludlow Funeral Home followed by Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church. She will be buried alongside her husband in Cemeterio de Arao in Arao, Valenca, Portugal.
