Obituary for Maria (Rodrigues) daCruz
Maria Inacia (Rodrigues) daCruz, 67, of Ludlow passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Sunday, January 22, 2012. Born in Medeiros, Portugal to the late Antonio and Joaquina Rodrigues, she was raised and schooled in Portugal before immigrating to France in 1966 then Ludlow in 1974. Maria was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church and active in the bible study. She was a member of the Gremio Lusitano Club, avid gardener, seamstress and enjoyed making traditional Portuguese foods for her family. Maria leaves her beloved husband of 44 years, Joaquim daCruz of Ludlow; loving sons Antonio daCruz and his wife Lucia and Mario daCruz and his wife Ana all of Ludlow; her cherished grandchildren Christian and Jacinda daCruz; caring sisters Custodia dos Santos of Ludlow, Gloria Afonso of Medeiros, Portugal and Amelia Atilho and her husband Paulo of France as well as several nieces, nephews, godchildren, great-nieces and nephews and many cousins throughout the US, Canada and Europe. Sadly she was predeceased by her two sisters Ana and Rosa Fernandes. Maria’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Lynne Stevenson and nurse Carol Flavel of the Shapiro Cardiovascular Center in Boston at Brigham and Womens Hospital along with the doctors and nurses of Baystate Pioneer Valley Cardiology and Quabog Valley Hospice, especially Christine St. Laurent for the wonderful care they provided for her. Funeral services for Maria will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 9:00am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated in Our Lady of Fatima Church at 10:00am followed by interment in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday evening from 4:00pm-7:00pm.
