Obituary for Maria (Viegas) Marques
Maria E. (Viegas) Marques, 84, of Ludlow passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Thursday August 1, 2024. Born in Faia, Guarda, Portugal she immigrated to the United States in 1970 and has lived in Ludlow ever since. She was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Parish and a former member of the Portuguese American Citizens Club. Maria enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crocheting but her greatest joy in life was the time spent with her family, especially cooking Sunday dinners. Maria leaves her beloved husband of 62 years Zeferino of Ludlow; loving son Jose and wife Carla of Ludlow and adored grandchildren Chelsea and Joel; caring sister Maria de Lourdes Almeida of Portugal as well as several loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Sadly, Maria was predeceased by her brothers Joao Lourenco and Jose Viegas and her son Fernando in 1979. Maria’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Elba Pires Morgado, Maria Joao White, Maria J. Quelha and the entire care team at Baystate Health Organization for the compassionate care they provided for her. Funeral services for Maria will be held on Tuesday August 6th, 2024 from the Ludlow Funeral Home. Visitation is Tuesday morning from 9:00-10:15am with a Liturgy of Christian Mass celebrated at 11:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Parish followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery.
