Obituary for Maria da Conceicao Luis
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Luis, 92, of Chicopee, Mass. Maria passed away on Monday, January 14, 2008 at Baystate hospital. She was born on July 14, 1915 in Rebelos, Portugal and has been residing in the United States since 1973. Maria leaves behind daughter and son in law, Alice and Americo Pereira of Chicopee, son and daughter in law, Mario and Isabel Luis of Spring Valley, NY, and daughter and son in law Maria and Manuel Luis also of Chicopee. She was a devoted and loving mother raising her children, while her husband traveled the seas as a merchant marine.  Maria had a strong sense of family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They will all miss her warm smile and contagious laugh. She leaves eight grandchildren; Luis Pereira of Chicopee, Cesar Pereira and wife Lisa of East Longmeadow, Godson Gualter Pereira of Chicopee, Flora Fonseca and her husband Dario of Spring Valley, NY, Elio Pereira and his wife Kimberly of South Hadley, Dora and Sara Luis of Spring Valley, NY, Danny Luis and wife Jaime of South Hadley. Ten great-grandchildren; Kyle and Brittany Pereira of Chicopee, Dario Fonseca Jr. and Gabriella Fonseca of Spring Valley, NY, Cesar Pereira Jr. and Dylan Pereira of East Longmeadow, Caitlin and Bailey Pereira of South Hadley, and Paiton and Jaidan Luis of South Hadley.  She had deep devotion and pride for her family. She will be deeply missed by all. Maria had great faith and was an active member of the Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Ludlow.  At her request, she will be laid to rest in Cela, Portugal, along side her beloved husband Francisco Luis of 55 years. Her funeral mass will be held on Sunday, January 20 in Cela, Portugal. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Portuguese American Club Inc, 149 Exchange Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. Or to Our Lady of Fatima Parish,438 Windsor Street, Ludlow,MA 01056.  Calling hours will be at Ludlow Funeral Home, 432 East Street, on Thursday evening from 5 PM – 8 PM.
