Obituary for Marie O. (Goupil) Savoy
Marie O. (Goupil) Savoy, 88, of Ludlow, was called safely home to Heaven on Sunday, May 27, 2012 with her loving family by her side. Born in 1923 in Shippagan, New Brunswick, Canada, daughter of the late Xavier and Mathilde (Rousselle) Goupil, Marie was an elementary school teacher in Shippagan for many years before moving to Montreal in her early 20’s. There she met and in 1953 married Air Force Sergeant Louis Savoy of Springfield. Among the places they lived with their family during Louis’ military career were Frankfort and Ramstein Air Base in West Germany during the early 50’s, and Loring AFB Caribou, Maine in the mid 50’s until he retired in 1962. Upon her husband’s retirement, Marie and her family settled in Ludlow where she was a resident for 50 years until the time of her passing. She was involved in the community of Ludlow as a parishioner of the former St. John the Baptist Church, currently St. Elizabeth Parish; a longtime member of the Ludlow Senior Center; and especially enjoyed volunteering at Ludlow Hospital and the Open Pantry. Marie had many close friends and was very well liked. Embracing all those she met, Marie had a zest for life and a great sense of humor. She enjoyed spending time with family, her friends, her beloved pets, and traveling back home to Canada to visit her loved ones. She was loved by her family and will be dearly missed by family and friends alike including her loving and supportive son Roy of Ludlow, step son James of Kentucky, and twin step daughters Anna of Springfield and Ellen of New Hampshire. She is also survived by sisters- Catherine and Leona and brother Donat all of Montreal. Sadly, Marie was predeceased by her parents, 3brothers, Joseph, Onile and Omer, and by a sister Lena.
Memorial services for Marie will be held by the family on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 9:00am in St. Elizabeth Parish
