Obituary for Mario "Mike" Machado
Mario “Mike” Machado, 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday August, 19, 2021. Born and raised in Ludlow he was the son of the late John and Idia (Santos) Machado. Mike served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean conflict and worked for many years as a mechanic for the Springfield City Water Department. He was the beloved husband of the late Lucy Belle (Taylor) Machado, and he leaves his son John of Ludlow, Grandchildren Ricky Machado (Laura), Julie Gray (Matt) and Ryan Machado (Lisa), great grandchildren Olivia Lyons, Charlotte Gray, Ava and Clara Machado, Scarlett Belle Machado, and was predeceased by his son Richard. He loved to tinker, especially on tractors, and there wasn’t a tractor he couldn’t fix. Cub Cadet tractors were his favorite. Every year he would work on Karen Randall’s father’s tractor for the irrigation system on the farm. His other passion was fixing clocks, and if he didn’t have one clock he didn’t have a thousand. Mike was an avid hunter and especially liked to hunt with Harold Nadeau, Jimmy Machado and his grandchildren Ricky and Ryan up on the farm. He took pride in his gardening with his granddaughter Julie Belle, especially tomato plants. He grew more than he could eat and enjoyed sharing them with friends, family and neighbors. It is rumored that he never ate one tomato, but grew thousands. Every summer he looked forward to visiting Virginia family and talking politics with the Virginia boys. He was very close to Lucy’s family and enjoyed his time at the farm. His sons always felt fortunate to be surrounded by all the neighborhood mothers. Heidi Golinski, Jane Godin, Nancy Santos and Bernie Forslund. Mike always said “family neighborhood, but related”. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings. He especially enjoyed spending time with his youngest grandson Ryan. Funeral services for Mike will be held on Friday August 27th from the Ludlow Funeral Home. Visiting hours are Friday morning from 10:00-11:30 with a Chapel Service beginning at 11:30am followed by burial, with Military Honors in The Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam at 1:00pm. It was the wish of Mikes’ family that in lieu of flowers please make donations in his memory to: Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, Ma. 01104 or @ shrinershospitalsforchildren.org.
