Obituary for Martin "Marty" J. Cairns
Martin J. Cairns, of Richmond Road in Ludlow, 86, passed away Friday, February 1, 2008  at Mercy Medical Center.  Born on August 2, 1921 to parents Alexander and MaryAnn Cairns in Ludlow, Ma, Martin began his life.  He was a United States Navy Veteran serving his country honorably during WWII.  He started at an early age building things which lead to a long career in carpentry.  He owned TAM builders for most of his early years and then moved on to letting someone else supply a paycheck and  take care of the headaches  when he began work for Contemporary Structure's in Ludlow.  Marty always helped out with any "carpenter" related duties at his church, St. Mary's in Ludlow, and became well acquainted with each Pastor in residence.  He actually played a very important part in the building of the new church and some of the upkeep afterward.  He was involved in the Men's Club at St. Mary's, sang in the choir for many years with his since departed wife Lucille, enjoyed being part of  the Knights of Columbus and was in charge (co-partners with Tony Mancuso) of the Senior Center Carpentry Shop after he retired from full time business.  He never stopped working with his hands, and building things was his passion.  He also loved playing cards, and he could play any game you wanted.  Even after a stroke left him with very limited use of his right side, he still found a way to play cards by making a wooden holder to hold the cards for him.  He never stopped enjoying life, ever until the very end.   Marty, if you asked anyone, will be remembered as the man who made you laugh or could at least put a smile on your face  with one of his many tunes that was either a "real" song or one that he had made up to fit the moment.  Martin was married for 53 years to his wife Lucille until she passed away in 2002.  He is survived by his daughter Lynn Podolski (Cairns) and her husband David and grandson Ryan.  He also leaves his "daughter in heart" Clovia (Andre) Enos, her husband Bill and their two children Bill Jr., his wife Annie their two children and Kim (Enos) Sattler and husband Tony.  He is also survived by his brother and sister in-law Wes and Nancy Tebo, several nieces and  nephews;  Kathy, her husband Norm, their children and their children’s, children,  Ann and her husband Kevin and their children,  Mary,  and her children, Tom, Pat, Mary, Colleen and their spouses, and their children and their children's children.  Marty is also survived to two of his favorite ladies who were his caregivers up until the very end and who are definitely considered part of this family,  Linda Rourke and Denise Lanoie of Ludlow.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Church - 12 Cedar Street in Ludlow and the Ludlow Senior Center - 37 Chestnut St, Ludlow, Ma.  No services to be held.  Instead we ask that all who knew Marty, when you've finished reading this, as korny as it sounds,  to sing....just sing a song, any song,   as loud as you can until you feel the smile forming on your own face and you can say for the last time....."Marty made me smile!"

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Church - 12 Cedar Street in Ludlow and the Ludlow Senior Center - 37 Chestnut St, Ludlow, Ma.
