Obituary for Mary (nee Martins) (Obrzut) Jewett

Mary (nee Martins) (Orbzut) Jewett, 92, of Holyoke, formerly of Ludlow, passed away peacefully at home on September 21, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Ludlow, the only daughter of the late Umbelina (Alves) Martins. She graduated from Ludlow High School and worked for many years at American Bosch, from where she retired, and later for Aetna Insurance.

During her school years, Mary excelled as an athlete playing softball, basketball and swimming. In addition to sports, she was also involved in Girl Scouts, played the drums, and sang in the school choir. Throughout her life, Mary loved to dance and always aspired to be a professional dancer. She also enjoyed watching classic films and cherished moments spent with her beloved family and friends.

Mary was the beloved wife of the late Dana Jewett who predeceased her in February; a devoted mother to Michael Obrzut (Alice), of Ludlow, Sharon Sepanek (Ron), of Agawam, Sandy Jenkins (Todd), of Palmer, and Laurie Cioch (David), of Springfield; a loving grandmother to Jason, Nichol, Joey, Anna, Matthew, Zach, and Jordan; a cherished great-grandmother to Isabella, Tyler, and Addison; a dear sister to the late Belarmino, Antonio, Jaime Martins, brother-in-law David Jewett of Hartford, CT; and also leaves many loving extended family members and friends including her former husband Michael S. Obrzut, and her best friend Adele “Dee Dee” Megizsky. Mary's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the family and friends who have provided care and support during this time. 

Funeral services for Mary will be held on Friday, October 4th. Visiting hours are from 9:00-10:15am at Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Parish followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Donations may be made in Mary’s memory to The American Heart Association.
