Michael (“Mike”, “Mr. Mike”) Flowers, 87, of Ludlow, MA was called to Heaven early Friday morning. Born in Randolph VT, Mike is the second of 3 children born to Arlene (Reynolds) Flowers and Edward Flowers. Mike was raised in Sharon, VT and spent his early teen years in Boston and Billerica, MA. During those years, he returned to Sharon, VT where he enjoyed his summers painting homes with his Grampa Tommy and Uncle George. Following graduation from Rindge Tech, Cambridge, MA, Mike enlisted in the Air Force where he served 4 years as a Military Police Officer. Soon after that, Mike met and married his loving wife of 40 years, Jean Julia Lucas, settling in Ludlow, MA in 1963. Mike was employed for nearly 20 years by Smith & Wesson, followed by over a decade at Burd Manufacturing working in Quality Assurance. During this time, Mike was also very busy raising six children. He very much enjoyed working with his hands – building additions to his home as his family grew, helping others with their renovations, and working on cars with his children. Mike was also a Boy Scout Leader and enjoyed hiking, swimming, fishing, and waterskiing. More recently, as a communicant of Saint Elizabeth’s Church in Ludlow, he served as an usher, greeter, and at times put his carpentry skills to use for the parish. Michael is predeceased by his wife, Jean (Lucas) Flowers, in 1998, son, Jeffrey Flowers, and grandson, Jared Flowers. He will be remembered fondly by his sister, Sally Moran and brother, Tom Flowers. Mike will be greatly missed by his children and their spouses: Michael and Staci Flowers, Steven and Pamela Flowers, David Flowers, Sally and Mark Fillion, Glenn Flowers; his 11 grandchildren: Michael Flowers, Jacqueline Fillion, Jonathan Fillion, Kevin Flowers, Joshua Flowers, Eric Flowers, Monica Fillion, Meghan Flowers, Veronica Fillion, and Adam Fillion; two great grandchildren: Aurelia Flowers and Cecilia Ybos; and his many extended family members and dear friends – including the morning Dunkin’ crew! Later in life, Mike was very fortunate to have the love and companionship of Maria Nogueira, who made these last 14 years so full, happy, and blessed. Funeral services for Michael will be held on Friday, December 16th from the Ludlow Funeral Home. Visiting hours at the Funeral Home are from 8:30am-10:15am with a Liturgy of Christian Mass celebrated at 11:00am in St. Elizabeth Church, followed by burial with Military Honors in Island Pond Cemetery. The family would like to invite you to donate in Michael’s honor to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
