Obituary for Mitchell "Zag" Zagranski
Mitchell R. Zagranski, 85, passed away unexpectedly, although  peacefully,  at home, on December 5, 2007.  Born in Ludlow, April 11, 1922, he was the youngest of nine children of the late Szczepan and Antonina (Rogowski) Zagraniczny.  He lived most of his life in Ludlow and graduated from Ludlow High School in 1939.  He worked at the Springfield Armory before serving his country, as a M.P. with the US Army during WW II.  While stationed at Fort Custer in Michigan, he met and married Vivian R. Hodge in Jackson Michigan on May 13, 1944.  After being honorably discharged in 1946, they returned to Michigan, where he worked briefly as a prison guard at the Jackson State Prison.  Soon after returning to Ludlow with his family in 1951, he was employed at Shawinigan/Monsanto Co., as a chemical operator and shift leader; retiring in 1986.  Mitch, or “Zag” as he was known by his friends, was a very loving and hard working man, who was totally devoted to his family.  He and his strength, dedication, and loving smile will be greatly missed.  He is survived by his wife of  63 years Vivian; two daughters, Lois Stafford and her husband Scott of Waterford, Ct. and Suzanne Pearson and her husband Donald , of Simsbury, Ct.; three grandchildren, Christina Stafford of Plainville, Ct., Scott Stafford and his wife Sally of Jupiter, Fl., and Jennifer Novak and her husband Jerald, of Greenwich, Ct.; three great grandsons, Scott “Jack” Stafford III , Nathan Stafford and Mitchell Williams, who brought him great joy, as well as his four nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by 7 brothers and 1 sister, Michael, Walter, Stanley, Joseph, Henry, Alexander, and twins, Theodore and Nellie , who died in childhood. According to his wishes, he will be cremated and a private family service will be held to celebrate his life.  Ludlow Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements, and in lieu of flowers donations in Mitchell's memory can be made to the charity of ones choice.
