Nascimenta Inacio Bernardo (86) entered the Gates of Heaven on the Lord’s day in her Florida home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Macal Do Chao, Portugal, she was the baby of the family, youngest of eight girls and born to Antonio Inacio and Maria Pinheiro Inacio. In 1954, she immigrated to the United States with her late sister Clotilde Veiga. As a motivated learner, she attended Commerce High School in Springfield and quickly became proficient in the English language. With a strong interest in current events and a love for America, she proudly became an American citizen in 1957. Nascimenta started working as a seamstress for a short while and after 32 years retired from Rexnord Chainbelt. Nascimenta was the heart of her family. She often said “Family Is Forever”. Her Ludlow home was referred to as Grand Central Station. She was the epitome of hospitality and her door was always open to all. Everyone was welcome to sit at her buffet table and strongly encouraged to eat. With a strong lifelong devotion to Our Lady of Fatima, she sang in the church choir in Portugal, was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Ludlow, and looked forward to the annual tradition of attending the candlelight procession at the Festa. Music was a big part of her life and she often recited Portuguese tunes from sound on the piano. Nascimenta always gave all of herself with joy. Throughout the years, she proudly reached the 13 gallon milestone by donating blood for the American Red Cross. She was also a longtime member of the Gremio Lusitano Portuguese Club in Ludlow and secretary of the Portuguese Women’s Auxiliary of the Lusitano Club in 1959. Her beloved husband, Antonio Bernardo, along with her loving daughter, Lisa Teixeira, with frequent visits of support from her eldest granddaughter, Alysse, acted as devoted loving caretakers to Nascimenta throughout the last years of her life as the progression of cancer, Alzheimer’s, and diabetes advanced. One of the many blessings and miracles witnessed is that she never forgot any of her family members. She knew she was very loved by all as she herself exuded love. Nascimenta leaves behind her dedicated husband Antonio Bernardo of 65 years of marriage, her loving daughter Lisa Teixeira and her husband Alan Teixeira. She was predeceased by her son James Bernardo and leaves behind his wife Kathleen Bernardo. She was dedicated to her five grandchildren who she proudly helped raise. Her cherished grandchildren include: Alysse Teixeira, Aryelle Teixeira and her husband Andrew Towsley, James Bernardo Jr, Victoria Bernardo and Veronica Bernardo, and also her treasured great-granddaughter Philomena Rose Towsley. She was predeceased by her six sisters: Sara Ferreira, Deolinda Frutuozo, Olinda Inacio, Augusta DaCruz, Maria Bernardo, and Clotilde Veiga and leaves one sister behind: Guilhermina Amaral. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Her family is sincerely thankful for the spiritual support from Our Lady Queen of Peace priests: Father Sebastian, Father Joseph, and Father James as well as their Florida family: Jorge and Lazara Gari and Kathleen Butler. Much gratitude is extended to her excellent medical team of doctors, (Dr. Mathew and Dr. Ayub) who provided exceptional medical care and helped extend her life Funeral services for Nascimenta will be held on Wednesday, September 27th from the Ludlow Funeral Home.
