Obituary for Otis R. Monette
Otis R. Monette, 88, of Springfield, died peacefully at home on March 26, 2013, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born in Springfield, he was a lifelong resident and retired employee of R.E. Phelon Co. in East Longmeadow. Otis was a United States Army Veteran proudly serving his country during WWII. He was also a member and past Commander of the American Legion Post 293 in East Longmeadow and member of the Forest Park VFW 7352. Otis enjoyed Sunday dinners with his family. He loved to take trips to the casino on his birthdays and enjoyed celebrating the holidays surrounded by his large family. Otis was the beloved husband of the late Irene (Dobek) Monette, who predeceased him in 1988; a loving father to Jerry and wife Marty, of Springfield, Cheryl Monette and Deborah McNiell, both of Ludlow, Darlene Stevens and husband Bill, of Bondsville, Mark and wife Barbara, of Indian Orchard, Gail Monette, Jeff and wife Cheryl, and Kim Monette and husband Doug, all of Springfield, Tammy Patrie and husband Brian, of Hampden, Scott and wife Tina, of Ludlow, Pam Ryan and husband Billy, of Springfield, Gary and wife Kathy, of Westfield, and Denise Mackenzie and husband Dan, of Palmer; a dear brother to the late Wallace, Walter, Harvey, Edna, Mabel, Evelyn, and Marian; and also leaves 39 cherished grandchildren; 36 adored great-grandchildren; and many loving extended family members and dear friends throughout the community. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 10:30am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Catherine of Siena Church at 11:30am followed by burial with Military Honors in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visiting hours are on Monday evening from 4:00-7:00pm at the funeral home.Â
