Obituary for Paul J. Mei Sr.
Paul J. Mei Sr (92) of Wilbraham, MA, former Vice-President of Administration/Finance and Treasurer/Director of Budgets, at Westfield State University died February 5, 2024 at home. He retired in 1996.Paul was a graduate of Western New England University. A lifelong volunteer, he was a counselor at the former York Street Jail in Springfield; a friend to the residents of the
Samaritan Inn Shelter in Westfield; served meals at the Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen in Springfield; and was a friend to the residents of the former Spruce Manor Nursing Home in Springfield, the Providence Care Center of Springfield, and the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Paul was a communicant of St. Cecilia Church in Wilbraham. Paul was a veteran of the Korean War serving overseas in 1953 – 54. He received the Korean Service Medal with one bronze service star, the United Nations Service Medal,
the National Defense Service Medal, The Korean War Service Medal, a Korean Presidential Unit Citation, and the Army Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of, and the former Treasurer of, the Korean War Veteran’s Association – Western
Massachusetts Chapter 2000. Paul returned to South Korea with his son Richard in 2009 for a revisit tour and was presented with the Ambassador of Peace Medal from the South Korean government. Paul was predeceased by his beloved wife Pauline, who passed away in 2008. Paul leaves two daughters: Dr. Dolores M. (and Karen Doherty) of Clearwater, FL; and Lin Tran (and Trevor Benchley) currently residing in Kolding, Denmark; three sons: Paul Jr. (and Judith Bordenuk) of Wilbraham, MA; Richard J. (and Dr. Shaunese Singleton) of Lake Wylie, SC; and John P. (and Saysha Mei) of Lake Wylie, SC. Paul also leaves ten grandchildren: Robert Irwin, Jennifer Mei, Anthony and Michael Choquette, Stephanie Wade, Olivia Smith, Dezirae, Jake, and Celeste Mei, and Corrine Busenbark; Paul also leaves four great-grandchildren: River, Willow, Devon, and Adelyn. Visiting Hours will be Monday February 12th at St. Cecilia Church, Wilbraham, MA from 10 to 11 AM. For those that wish to stay after Visiting Hours, there will be a Liturgy of Christian Burial Mass at 11 AM at St. Cecilia’s. Burial will be private.
